February Feathers for FMQ Challenge

Just a quick post to show my practice for the 2012 Free Motion Quilting challenge. February's challenge was feathers with Diane Gaudynski. She gave a great tutorial with lots of hints. I did practice one afternoon and had intended on doing more but somehow I ran out of month!
I also tried some bubbles and fillers. With a bit more practice I may try feathers on a quilt. Looking forward to next month's tutorial.

Design Wall Dilemma, Double Nine Patch

My design wall was completely taken over by my Moody Blues quilt in progress. I wanted to take a break from it but didn't want to take it down. The solution? I pinned a vinyl flannel backed tablecloth over top (flannel to the front). I instantly had a fresh surface to work on my double nine patch (the one I had a slight melttdown over a few months ago in this post).
I've made quite a bit of headway on it. All the blocks and corner triangles are ready to be sewn together. Any of those little imperfections are forgotten. So what if a couple of points aren't perfect - I love this quilt! Tonight I'm going to start sewing all the blocks together. It would be amazing to have it finished by the end of the month as my February Sew It's Finished project. If not, at least I will way ahead on a March submission!

26, 26, 26 and FNSI Results

"26, 26, 26", that's what is going over and over in my head. Why or what is 26 you might ask? It's the number of UFO's I have!!! I'm going to make a UFO page on my blog later this week so that everyone can see how much progress (or lack of) I will have made this year! The following picture is of a quilt I'm making for my daughter's 18th birthday. Oh, and by the way, she celebrated her 30th last year (glad I made you feel better about your own UFOs).
As tempting as it was to finish my daughter's quilt, I decided to work on something else for the FNSI. After all, what's a few more months added onto 12 years? I really need to get Moody Blues done. It's going to be my entry into our guilds quilt show in April. The small drunkard's path blocks were sewn together last night and I started joining the blocks together. There was a design dilemma part way through the evening so progress was halted.
With a little more sewing time left, I started on my blocks for the charm square challenge. It's not very interesting at the moment, but I think it will turn out well. I'm not revealing my idea for it until it's further along.
So that was my night. Now I have to check out what everyone else accomplished!

CHARM Squares!!

I love these charm squares!

I'm participating in 2 charm square exchange/challenges at the same time (because I don't have enough unfinished projects!!). These are the 144 charms for the first one with the SFX quilt group. You are challenged to make anything you want, adding as many fabrics from your stash as you need. The top has to be completed by the June quilt group meeting, and it has to be completely finished for the Christmas windup. So far, I've only arranged them in groups of color. I need to cut more from my stash to make...um.....I CAN"T DECIDE!!!  Hopefully I can make up my mind before June hits! For now I'm like a kid with a new box of crayons.

The second exchange with Manitoba Prairie Quilters guild is similar, except you must make a lap quilt (adding lights from your stash) which will be donated to the ABC program (quilts made for adults, babies and children and distributed to a variety of organizations). I won't get those squares until next week.

Let's see............So far this year I've committed to make a quilt for Victoria's Quilts, one for Wildlife Haven Rehabilitation center, 2 charm square challenges, joined a UFO challenge online, joined another UFO challenge with the guild, joined the FMQ challenge and it's only the beginning of February. I think I better get going on some sewing!!
