BIrch Trees

Working on a small quilt for a challenge at our quilt show. All the quilts will be auctioned off for charity. Toying with 2 different backgrounds:

Trees on top of border?

Abstract pieced background?

Can't decide which way to go. I guess I better hurry as our show is next month! A big thank you to Jacquie Geuring from Tallgrass Prairie Studio. I asked her for permission to use her quilt "Night Forest" as my inspiration and she responded within minutes with the OK!!

Two Tops Done!

I had a fantastic time over the weekend. Spent 4 days quilting with a great group of women. Tons of conversation, laughter, inspiration, food and a little wine!

 

I don't know who the first quilt will go to. I just wanted to make a fresh, simple spring quilt. I may end up adding a border with a bit of applique in 2 of the corners. The second quilt was just  because I love the simplicity of the pattern. It worked so well the first time with the grey/yellow fabrics that I wanted to make it again.

 

How is it possible to make a mistake (or two) on such a simple quilt? First, you have a glass of wine before cutting your longest sashing strips. Even though you measure a million times, you cut all 5 strips 1" too short. Then you put it all together and realize you turned one block the wrong way. I may just leave the block the wrong way.

Carpenter's Star

I only needed to sew three or four seams to finish this topper, yet it sat in the UFO pile for a couple of years!

It will now sit on my waiting to be quilted pile for how long???

Modern Quilt Update

I've had quite a few requests for the name of the pattern of this modern quilt:

The pattern is called TAKING TURNS from the Spring 2012 issue of Quilts and More. It was designed by Monica Solorio-Snow of  Happy Zombie  and she now sells the pattern under the new name of PATIO.

My Dad saw this quilt top yesterday and loves it! Looks like I need to add some more blocks to make it a queen sized quilt!

Easy Modern Quilt!

There is a ton of stuff I was supposed to do this weekend. I decided to sew instead (that was an easy decision).

This was a very easy, satisfying pattern to make. The picture isn't the best as the colors don't show accurately. I will take another picture when it is all quilted. Today I want to piece a backing for it.

PEAR PINCUSHION

I've wanted to make one of these for years but somehow never got around to doing it. It was a fun, quick project. Why did I wait so long? I'm going to make another one (the stitching on the leaf is a little messed up). Might even make an apple, pumpkin and peas in a pod!
